Welcome back from the holiday weekend!

We are so excited for the second grade students to be all together at school today!  We would like to thank all of the teachers and staff who were involved in reorganizing the classrooms and the shared spaces to help make this happen.

We are fortunate that the school district continues to make incremental progress in bringing as many children as possible back to the school. Thank you everyone for your continued support in making this a reality.

This week marks our Annual Appeal!  Please be on the lookout for additional communications and consider supporting our 20/21 Fiske Gives Campaign.  We have a goal to reach a 75% participation rate, so please take action this week as this will be a short run campaign (short and sweet!)

All parents/guardians and teachers are invited to this Thursday’s PTO meeting.  The meeting will be held via zoom at 6:30 PM.  We hope to see you there!

As always, please take some time to review the details below.

New Absentee Page

As we look forward to the remainder of the school year, please keep in mind the WPS attendance protocol for the 2020-2021 school year. It is important that all students attend their in-person days unless they are sick or been advised to quarantine.

Required Attendance in the Hybrid Learning Model:

  • In-person learning is an essential part of the WPS hybrid model. Students should be in school on their designated hybrid day unless there is a documented, approved reason for them to remain at home. Parents need to follow their school’s procedure for reporting an absence.

  • In some instances, a student may be sick (e.g. cold, sore throat) and still healthy enough to access their learning from home. These situations must be coordinated/approved in advance and through consultation with the teacher, school nurse, and/or the school principal. Your school nurse is an excellent resource if you need any guidance or direction when making this decision.

  • Students/families should not opt to be remote for reasons of convenience (e.g. vacation/travel plans, family visits, student preference).

  • If a student/family opts to be remote on one of their designated in-person learning days without an approved reason, the student may be marked absent (unexcused absence)  — even if/when they Zoom into their class. These absences will appear on their report card and in their cumulative record.

  • The MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education requires all districts to track and report student attendance. They state, “being chronically absent can have a significant impact on a student’s ability to read at grade level, perform academically, and graduate on time.”

Morning Car Line

For the safety of our students, the upper parking lot is closed to parking during arrival (8:00-8:30 a.m.) and dismissal (3:00-3:30 p.m.) times.  The front driveway is a one-way street used for drop-off.  Please remain in a single file car line in the indicated car line area. When dropping your child/children off in the front of the school, you will be directed to move your vehicle to the front of the car line.   Once all cars are stopped, children will be instructed by a staff member to exit their car on the curbside and walk to their designated entry area.  Students should go directly to their class line.   Drivers do not get out of the car when in the car line. Once all children have exited their cars, drivers will be directed to move out of the parking lot.  For safety reasons, do not pull out of car line at any time.

Afternoon Car Line

For the safety of our students, the upper parking lot is closed to parking during arrival (8:00-8:30) and dismissal (3:00-3:30) times. The front driveway is a one-way street use for pick up only from 3:00-3:30 p.m.This year we will be dismissing P.A.W.S from our car line from 2:30-2:50.  Please DO NOT arrive for pickup before 2:50 so our littlest friends can be dismissed safely.

All Fiske procedures are in the Insiders Guide to Fiske that can be found on our Fiske School Webpage.

Make a FISKETASTIC Donation to the Fiske PTO today! During this unique school year it is as important as ever to support the Fiske PTO which funds the programs that make our school so Fisketastic.

Every year we count on the amazing families of this school to support the PTO through its annual Wild West Round-Up and since sadly this event couldn’t be held this year we are looking for your contributions THIS WEEK during FISKE GIVES!

The PTO spends approximately $350 on each child annually to provide enriching and educational services, digital tools and curriculum support above and beyond regular district funding throughout the school year.

We are suggesting a tax-deductible donation of $75 per child, however, we will gratefully accept any amount you can contribute!
